The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has ruled that American gymnast Jordan Chiles must return the bronze medal she won in the floor exercise at the Paris Olympics after it was found that her score had been incorrectly judged.

The IOC announced that the bronze medal will be reallocated to Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu, following the International Gymnastics Federation's (FIG) decision to honor the ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The CAS voided Chiles' score after determining that U.S. coach Cecile Landi's appeal had been submitted outside the allowable one-minute window. The appeal had resulted in a 0.1 point increase in Chiles' score, which pushed her into third place, earning her the bronze over Barbosu.

The CAS stated it would coordinate with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee regarding the return of the medal.
USA Gymnastics expressed deep disappointment with the CAS decision. In a statement, the organization said, "The inquiry into the Difficulty Value of Jordan Chiles’ floor exercise routine was made in good faith, with the belief that it complied with FIG rules to ensure accurate scoring."
Chiles shared that she was devastated by the ruling and planned to take a break from social media. With the adjusted score, Chiles drops to fifth place.
Her teammates quickly offered their support on social media. Simone Biles wrote on Instagram, "Sending you so much love, Jordan. Keep your chin up, 'Olympic champ.' We love you."
Suni Lee added, "All this talk about the athlete, what about the judges? Completely unacceptable—this is awful, and I’m gutted for Jordan."
