The announcement came at EVO 2024, much to the excitement of fans who have been waiting for Heihachi's return. He wasn't part of the initial roster due to his fate in Tekken 7's story, but his iconic presence made fans eager for his comeback.
In a conversation with Tekken's Katsuhiro Harada and Kohei Ikeda, they discussed the decision to bring Heihachi back. "Tekken 7 focused on Heihachi and Kazuya's story, leading to Heihachi's apparent end," Harada explained. "With Tekken 8, we saw fans' engagement with the story and realized they missed Heihachi, just as we did. So, we decided to bring him back."

Ikeda revealed that preparations for Heihachi's return were already underway. "We made preparations in the background. Reina's character is linked to Heihachi, and the 30th-anniversary logo subtly hints at Heihachi's silhouette," Ikeda said.
Though details about Heihachi's character in Tekken 8 are scarce, Ikeda shared some hints. "Heihachi's powerful play style is a series staple, and we aim to recreate that. Story elements involving the monks will influence his move set," Ikeda added.
Heihachi is the third DLC character for Tekken 8, following Eddy Gordo and Lidia Sobieska. Fans can also look forward to the first-ever story DLC in the Tekken franchise, "The Dark Awakens," continuing the Kazama and Mishima family clash, available as a free update for all players.
